Eco Design

Eco-Design embodies production methods that respect the planet and human health. Terms such as “green”, “sustainable”, “eco-friendly” and many others suggest that a particular design or product was made with sensitivity to the environment. Atmosphera’s focus for eco-design is to create beautiful spaces and objects that do not harm the earth, people or eco-systems. Atmosphera will always strive for the most innovative but efficient design solution and we hope that our clientele will remain intrigued by the option of implementing designs in the most environmentally-sound way possible.

• Wall Treatments such as paint and wallpaper can be especially toxic to apply and live with.

Choose healthy alternatives such as 0-VOC paint, natural plaster, low-impact glazes and washes.

• Fabric and Textile production is one of the interior design industry’s most damaging sources of environmental pollutants. Natural, untreated fibers such as organic hemp, linen and cotton help reduce pesticide use and allow for a non-toxic substitute for petro-chemically derived materials. Soy-based inks are bringing new life and color to this rapidly-growing industry.

• Sustainable wood and furniture manufacturing is reducing the use of formaldehyde in particle-board and the
off-gassing of chemical finishes.

Upholstery and mattresses are now available with natural rubber, wool and cotton filling.

• Recycled materials and objects get re-used for new products. This can produce a beautiful effect and reduce waste.

Be aware that any plastic material that is being “recycled” is really only being “down-cycled” into another plastic product that can never truly disappear from the waste stream. Keep in mind that all plastics continue to off-gas forever.
Choose recycled products wisely.
